Description

Would you like to know that your work truly makes a difference in the world? At Voices For Independence, we are improving lives every day. Our Independent Living Department helps support our mission of empowering people with disabilities and promoting independent living.

Voices for Independence is currently seeking a full-time Independent Living Specialist to provide services within our service area.

The Independent Living Specialist's main responsibilities are to equip and empower people with disabilities by providing Independent Living services such as peer support and skills training as well as additional IL services while implementing the ideals of the IL philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote IL initiatives and complete consumer assessments.
  • Provide resources and opportunities to support consumer goals.
  • Collaborate with consumers to develop IL goals.
  • Conduct skills training classes and provide individual instruction.
  • Offer one-on-one peer support and facilitate support groups.
  • Complete intake assessments and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Stay informed about available consumer services and eligibility requirements.
  • Submit reports, perform data entry, and participate in team projects.
  • Conduct outreach and advocacy to promote disability rights.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and state laws.
  • Travel as needed within the service area.
  • Actively participate in agency and community events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA in the Human Services field.
  • Personal experience with a disability and/or related experience may be substituted for education.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the independent living philosophy. 
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Personal means of transportation.
  • Personal experience with a disability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of CilSuite by Q90
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of local community resources
