Voices for Independence (VFI) is seeking a motivated Pre-ETS Instructor to help students with disabilities prepare for life after high school. In this role, you’ll inspire and guide students through career exploration, workplace readiness training, self-advocacy, and post-secondary planning, all while connecting them to real-world job experiences that set them up for success.

 

About Voices for Independence
The mission of VFI is to empower people with disabilities and promote independent living. As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), we provide core services such as advocacy, peer support, skills training, information and referral, and deinstitutionalization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead group and one-on-one lessons on employment skills, self-advocacy, and education planning.
  • Coordinate work-based learning opportunities such as internships, job shadows, and workplace tours.
  • Assist students with applications, scholarships, and campus visits for post-secondary programs.
  • Collaborate with schools, employers, and community partners to support student goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and meet reporting requirements.
  • Travel locally within Erie County to schools, worksites, and partner locations.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, special education, social work, human resources, or at least 2 years of related experience in place of a degree.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably youth.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration, and insurance.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs.
  • Must obtain criminal and child abuse clearances.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience collaborating with schools, employers, and community agencies.

 

Work Environment

  • Combination of fieldwork, remote work, and office work.
  • Local travel required; occasional overnight travel for trainings or conferences.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
